Error "File does not begin with '%PDF-'" When
Clicking a Downloadable File in a Web Browser Issue
When you click a link to a downloadable file in a Web
browser, your Adobe Acrobat viewer starts, then returns
the error, "File does not begin with '%PDF-'."
Solutions
Do one or more of the following:
Note: If after you work through these solutions, you
still get an error when you click a link to a
downloadable file, report the problem to Adobe. For more
information, see document 322957, "How to Report a
Download Problem."
Solution 1
Hold down the Shift key (Windows and UNIX) or the
Option key (Mac OS) when clicking the link. In most Web
browsers, this enables you to specify a location on your
hard disk to save the file. After the download is
complete, navigate to the folder location where you chose
to save the file, then double-click the file to open it.
Solution 2
Configure your Web browser to properly handle the file
type you are downloading. For assistance, refer your Web
browser's documentation or support resources. For
example, if you use Netscape Navigator, search the
Netscape Web site at http://help.netscape.com/
for document 960513-18. If you use Microsoft Internet
Explorer, search the Microsoft Web site at http://search.support.microsoft.com/kb/c.asp?fr=0&SD=GN&LN=EN-US
for Article ID Q170210 and Q170802. Or, contact your Web
browser's manufacturer to ensure that your Web browser is
handling the file type correctly.
Solution 3
Make sure the file you're downloading is not damaged.
For more information,see document 323023.Additional
Information
This problem may occur when the operating system is
incorrectly configured to associate a file type other
than PDF with an Acrobat viewer. This problemmay also
occur when you attempt to open a damaged PDF file.
